A coupon offer is a discount, such as 20% off, $10 off or free shipping. You make it once. After that you drop it into any email and each person gets a code. The code is created in your shop before the email goes out, so nobody is sent a code that does not work.

#Where it is

Open Email & SMS, then Tools, then Coupons. Each card shows an offer with three numbers: Given out, Used, and Ready / total. Press New offer to make one.

#Make an offer

  1. Press New offer.

  2. Type a name in the first field, which asks what the offer is named. Only you see it. It becomes the tag you drop into an email.

  3. Under How should the code work?, pick one:

    • Give each person their own code. Each code is locked to the person it was sent to and stops after one order. You can see who used theirs.
    • One code for everyone. The same code goes in every email. It is simple, and fine for a public sale, but it can be forwarded or posted on a coupon site.
    • Codes I already made in my shop. You paste in a list of codes and we hand them out one per person. We never touch your shop. When they run out you add more.
  4. For one code each, type Start every code with a prefix such as WELCOME, and pick How long is the random part? from 6 to 10 characters. Codes look like WELCOME-4KQ7M2. We skip letters that look alike, so there is no O, I or L. For one code for everyone, type The code, such as SUMMER20.

  5. Under The discount, pick A percentage off, An amount off the whole order, An amount off each item or Free shipping, then fill in How much?

  6. Set the limits, all optional:

    • Runs out after a number of days from when each person gets it.
    • …and never after a fixed end date. Whichever comes first wins.
    • Uses per code. 1 is normal. 0 means unlimited.
    • Only on orders over a minimum spend.
    • Only on these products, using product IDs from your shop.
    • Do not apply to items already on sale.
  7. Press Create offer.

On Shopify, a code can be held to one use per customer, but it cannot be locked to an email address. A forwarded code can still be used by whoever opens it.

#Put it in an email

  1. Open a design in the editor.

  2. Type / and pick the offer under Amino Engine. Or type @ and pick "Coupon code" with the offer's name. You can also paste the tag shown on the offer's page, which looks like {{coupon:welcome-10}}.

  3. Save the design.

#Codes and your shop

Open an offer to see the Codes table, with Given out, Used and In your shop for each code.

  • In your shop means the codes are live.
  • Not in your shop yet means they are waiting. For a big send, press Make codes now to make a batch ahead of time. The box starts at 500.
  • Shop refused it means the shop rejected some. Press Try again. The error beside a code says why.

To add your own codes, open the offer, find Add codes from your shop, paste one code per line or a spreadsheet column, and press Add these codes.

Press Export CSV to download every code.

#Don't run out

Under Running out, set Tell me when there are fewer than a number. We email everyone on your team once a day until you fix it. For a one-code-each offer, switch on Make more automatically instead of just telling me and set Top back up to a larger number. We create the new codes in your shop, an hour at a time. For your own codes, you upload the next batch.

If an offer is empty when an email goes out, the email prints "[coupon unavailable]" where the code should be. It cannot be taken back once sent.

#Change or stop an offer

Edit the discount and press Save changes. People who already have a code keep the discount they were given. New codes get the new one. A static code cannot be changed.

To end an offer, press Stop this offer at the bottom of its page. It disappears from the list and the editor. Codes people already have keep working, unless you tick Also remove the unused codes from my shop. That option is not offered for your own codes.

#If it didn't work

  • No codes could be created in the shop. The message names the reason from your shop. Check that your store connection is healthy, then press Try again.
  • The email says "[coupon unavailable]". The offer had no ready code at that moment. Make more before the next send.
  • I can't see New offer. Your role can read content but not change it. Ask an owner or admin.
