Duplicate, follow up and reuse campaigns
Copy a campaign, resend to people who didn't open, delete a draft, and start from a ready-made idea.
Where it is in the app
Open Home, choose Email & SMS, then Campaigns.
- Home
- Email & SMS
- Campaigns
You rarely need to start from nothing. This article covers the row menu on the Campaigns list, the follow-up to people who did not open, and the Ideas tab.
#The row menu
Every row in Campaigns has a ⋯ menu on the right. What it offers depends on the status.
| Status | Menu items |
|---|---|
| Draft | Edit, Duplicate, Delete |
| Scheduled | Edit, Cancel schedule, Duplicate |
| Sending or Paused | View report, Preview what was sent, Duplicate |
| Sent | View report, Preview what was sent, Duplicate, Resend to people who didn't open |
| Cancelled | View report, Duplicate |
Search with the Search campaigns box. The pills above the table filter by status. If your brand sends texts, three more pills filter by channel: All, Email and Text.
#Duplicate a campaign
Open the ⋯ menu on the row, or press Duplicate on the campaign's report.
A new draft opens. It has the same design, the same audience and the same From address. Its name is the old name plus "(copy)". A second copy is "(copy 2)".
Edit it and send it like any new campaign.
A duplicate has no recipients and no results. Nothing sends until you schedule it. If the original has no design or no sending address, you get "That campaign has no design or no sending address, so there is nothing to copy."
#Delete a draft
Open the ⋯ menu on a Draft row.
Press Delete.
Confirm. The box asks "Delete "name"?" and says "You can't get it back." Press Delete, or Keep to back out.
Only a draft can be deleted. A campaign that went out stays, because it is the record of who was mailed. It tells you "This campaign is sent, so it cannot be deleted."
#Resend to people who didn't open
Use this a day or two after a send.
Open the ⋯ menu on a Sent row.
Press Resend to people who didn't open.
A follow-up draft opens: "A follow-up draft is ready. Nothing is sent until you press Send."
Change the subject line, then send it from the Review step.
The draft carries the note "This is a follow-up. It goes only to the people who got" the first campaign "and didn't open or click it. We work that out when it sends, so anyone who opens it in the meantime is left out."
Each campaign can have one follow-up. If you press the item again, you get "This campaign already has a follow-up. Opening it." Text campaigns cannot be followed up, because a text has no opens.
#Send the follow-up automatically
You can also ask for it before the first send.
On the Review step, press More options.
Under Follow-up to people who don't open, switch on Send a follow-up.
Type a New subject line. Leave it empty and we use "Re:" plus the first subject.
Pick Send it after from 1 to 7 days.
#More options on the Review step
The same More options area has Add tracking to links (UTM). It adds the source and campaign tags to links so your shop's analytics can see where a visit came from. A line shows the exact tags. Don't put personal details in these.
#Start from an idea
The Ideas tab sits next to the campaign list. The page is titled Campaign ideas. Each card is a ready-made campaign with an audience, a written subject line and a designed email.
Open Campaigns, then Ideas.
Narrow the cards with Search ideas or the goal pills: All, Promote a product, Launch a sale, Reward your best customers, Share news and Educate.
Click a card. A panel shows Who it goes to, What it says and the email, drawn in your colours.
If the panel says it will create a saved audience and names it, that audience does not exist yet and will be made for you.
Press Use this idea. It "Creates a draft. Nothing is sent." You land on the Review step with everything filled in.
The number on each card is how many people match the rules right now. Who can actually be emailed is worked out when you send.
#If it didn't work
- Use this idea is missing. The panel says "Ask somebody who can send campaigns to start this." Your role can't create campaigns.
- These will make the audience, but not the draft yet. The note above the cards explains what is missing, such as a verified sending address.
- Delete is not in the menu. The campaign is not a draft.
- The follow-up item is missing. It only shows on a sent email campaign.
