Time a campaign

Send now, schedule it, send at the same local time for everyone, spread it out, and stop it once it is going.

Timing is set on the last step, Review, in the When section. You choose one of three ways to send, and you can add Spread it out to any of them.

#The three ways to send

  1. Send now. The main button reads Send to 4,821 people. Press it and the email starts going out in batches.

  2. Schedule for later. Pick a date and time. The time zone is printed under the box. It is your brand's time zone, not your computer's. The button reads, for example, Schedule for 9 Sept, 9:00.

  3. Send at 9:00 in each person's own time zone. The label shows the clock time you picked. Everybody gets the email at that time where they are.

#Each person's local time

With the third choice, pick a date and time in the box. Then decide what happens for people whose time has already passed:

  • If that time has already passed for someone, send to them right away
  • Wait until that time tomorrow

A line under the options says how many time zones we know: "We know the time zone of 1,200 of 4,821 people. Everyone else gets it at" your brand's time. Time zones fill in as people visit your shop. If we know none yet, everybody gets it at your brand's time.

The button reads Send in their time zone.

#Spread it out

Tick Spread it out to send over a longer period. It starts at Send over 6 hours. Change the number of hours, from 1 to 72. The note says why: "So your site and your reputation aren't hit all at once."

The tick box is switched off while the campaign is testing two versions. The test needs its sample to get the email at the same moment.

#While it is scheduled

A scheduled campaign is locked. The page says "Cancel the schedule to change anything about it, then schedule it again."

  1. Press Cancel schedule.

  2. Edit what you need.

  3. Schedule it again.

The message reads "The schedule is cancelled. Nothing has gone out, and you can edit it again." The campaign list also has Cancel schedule in the ⋯ menu on that row.

The status in the list reads Scheduled · 9 Sept, 9:00.

#Once it is sending

Open the campaign. A sentence at the top says where it is: how many are out, when the next batch goes, when it should finish. If your sending domain is still warming up, it says so with the daily limit, for example "your domain is warming up (500 a day)". A warming domain can only send so many a day, so a big campaign may take several days.

Two buttons appear for people who can send campaigns:

  • Pause. The message reads "Paused between batches. Nothing more goes out until you resume." This screen has no resume button, so use Pause only if you intend to stop for good.
  • Cancel — 664 emails have not left yet. The number is how many are still waiting. It stops those. Emails already sent cannot be taken back. If nothing was waiting, the button reads Stop this send.

#Texts

A text campaign has no "each person's own time zone" choice. Texts only go out between 9 AM and 8 PM in each person's own time, and the Review step warns you if you schedule outside that window. People left over after 8 PM wait for the morning.

#If it didn't work

  • Pick a date and time, or choose "Send now". The date box is empty.
  • That date and time could not be read. Pick it again from the date box.
  • The box says "Your brand has no timezone set yet". No time zone is saved for your brand, so the time you pick has nothing to anchor to. Set one in your brand settings before you schedule.
  • The send button is off with no red row. Your role may not allow sending. Ask an owner or admin.
  • The campaign says Sending but few have left. Check the sentence on top. A warming domain or a spread-out send explains it.
