What a peptide merchant account is
Three words get mixed up all the time, so here they are in plain terms:
- Merchant account. The account that receives card payments for your business and pays them out to your bank.
- Payment gateway. The checkout connection on your store that sends the card details to be approved.
- Processor. The company that moves the money between the card networks, the merchant account and you. It is also the company that decides whether your category is allowed.
For most stores this is invisible. You sign up, add a plugin and start selling. For a peptide store it is the whole question. The processor has to know what you sell and accept it up front. If it finds out later, after the money has started moving, the usual result is a frozen balance and a closed account.
That is why a peptide merchant account is worth getting right once, before launch, rather than fixing after a shutdown.
Why peptide stores get a different review
Card processors class peptide stores as high risk. That is a label for the category, not a judgement of you. It means more questions before you go live and terms such as reserves that are set in writing. Our page on high-risk merchant accounts for peptides explains the label in full.
A research-use-only notice on its own does not settle the review. Underwriters look at the whole store: the product pages, the claims made about them, the policies, and who the store appears to be selling to. A notice helps only when the rest of the store matches it.
What underwriters ask for
Most peptide underwriting asks for the same short list. Have it ready and the review moves faster.
- Company formation documents and your EIN letter.
- A government ID for each owner.
- A business bank account in the company's name.
- A live store URL, or a staging link if the store is not open yet.
- A product list that matches what is on the store.
- Research-use-only notices on product pages and at checkout.
- A shipping policy and a refund policy that a buyer can find.
- Real contact details on the site: an email address at minimum.
- Your estimated monthly volume and your current or past processors.
The Amino Engine application asks for your business name, website, platform (WooCommerce or Shopify), estimated monthly volume and current or previous processors. A link to your documents is welcome but not required to apply.
What usually slows a review is not the paperwork. It is a store that says one thing on the application and another on the product pages. Make them match.
What "no processing history" means here
Many processors want months of card history before they open an account, or they ask a new store to fund a cash reserve first. At Amino Engine, no processing history is required. We review your store and your documents, not a track record. A brand that has just launched, or has not launched yet, applies the same way as everyone else.
For contrast, here is how one peptide-focused broker describes the route for a store below its volume bar:
“Below the volume minimum, a merchant account is still approvable if you can fund a cash reserve.”

That is a normal way to run underwriting. It is just not the only way. Every processor sets its own entry rules, some ask for third-party certifications and some do not, so read each processor's own page before you apply and ask the question in writing.
How approval works at Amino Engine
Amino Engine is the merchant processor for peptide brands. Everyone can apply. The path from application to your first card payment has four steps:
- Apply. A short application about your company and your store.
- We review your store. Your documents and your site, once, before your first payment. If something needs fixing, we tell you exactly what.
- Cards switch on. Visa, Mastercard, Discover and Amex on your own WooCommerce or Shopify store. We set it up with you after approval.
- We stay with you. Support by email, and help with chargebacks when they come in.
Before your first payment, you get these in writing:
- Your rate, quoted with your approval.
- Any setup fee.
- Payout timing: when the money reaches your bank.
- Whether any reserve is held, and for how long.
- What a dispute costs.
What blocks an approval is missing documents, or a store that will not meet our site rules: research-use-only notices and clear shipping and refund policies. Never your history. If you have a question about certifications, ask us about LegitScript and your store when you apply.
If you were closed or declined before
A past shutdown does not stop you applying. Stores closed or frozen by Stripe, Shopify Payments, PayPal or Square, and stores declined at another application, are all welcome. Tell us what happened in your application. We look at your store as it is today.
Please do not describe your store differently to get through a review, here or anywhere. It tends to make every later application harder. If you need to know what a specific processor says about peptides, start with these:
- Stripe closed your peptide store: what Stripe's own FAQ says about peptides.
- PayPal and peptide stores: the policy lines and the 180-day hold clause.
- Shopify Payments and peptide stores: what the terms say and how to keep your Shopify store.
- The peptide platform policy tracker: dated quotes from the platforms themselves.
