How to accept credit cards on a WooCommerce peptide store

Most guides to taking cards on WooCommerce say: install a payment plugin, connect it, done. For a peptide store that skips the part that matters. WooCommerce lets you sell. The card processor behind the checkout is what has to accept you. Here is what WooCommerce's own docs say, the steps to a working card checkout, and a checklist to run before launch.

The short answer

WooCommerce is the store. It is open-source software you run on your own hosting, and it does not decide whether you can take cards. That decision belongs to the processor behind your payment gateway. Pick a processor that accepts peptide stores before you go live, and the rest is setup.

The common mistake is the reverse: install whichever card plugin comes first, start selling, and learn months later that the processor behind it does not accept the category.

What WooCommerce says

WooCommerce has a document on exactly this question. Asked whether WooCommerce can be used to sell highly regulated products, it answers:

“Yes. WooCommerce is open-source software, and we do not limit how it is used.”

The same document then lists what a store selling highly regulated products cannot do. The first item is the one that catches most new stores:

“Use WooCommerce services that depend on a Jetpack connection, such as WooPayments, WooCommerce Shipping, and WooCommerce Tax.”

The list also includes hosting the site on WordPress.com. And the document is clear that gateways have their own rules on top:

“Payment gateways, including WooPayments, and merchant accounts also have their own rules and restrictions on highly-regulated products. Make sure your payment gateway and merchant account support the products you intend to sell.”

The document links to the list of products it counts as highly regulated. Check it against your own catalogue. Either way, the last quote is the rule to follow: your gateway and merchant account have to support what you sell.

What about the Stripe plugin? Stripe's own FAQ (checked 8 October 2026) says it supports many peptides with some limitations, and that research peptides need preventive measures in place. Stripe decides whether a store meets that bar. Read our Stripe page before you rely on it.

The steps

With Amino Engine, the merchant processor for peptide brands, the path to a card checkout on your WooCommerce store looks like this:

  1. Apply. A short application about your company and your store. Pick WooCommerce as your platform. No processing history required.
  2. We review your store. Your documents and your site, once, before your first payment. If something needs fixing, we tell you exactly what.
  3. The gateway goes onto your store. We set it up with you after approval, on your own WooCommerce store and your own hosting.
  4. Place a test order. Check the checkout, the confirmation email and the order in your dashboard before you tell buyers.
  5. Take your first card payment. Visa, Mastercard, Discover and Amex.

Before your first payment you get these in writing: your rate, quoted with your approval, any setup fee, payout timing, whether any reserve is held and for how long, and what a dispute costs.

Pre-launch checklist for the store

Run through this before you apply. It is what an underwriter reads, and it is what our review checks.

  • Research-use-only notices on every product page and at checkout.
  • No health claims anywhere on the store, including the blog, product descriptions and image text.
  • A shipping policy page with where you ship and how long it takes.
  • A refund policy page that a buyer can find from the footer and the checkout.
  • Contact details on the site: an email address at minimum.
  • Product pages that match your application. If you list ten products on the form, the store shows the same ten.

What to have ready when you apply

The application itself is short. The review moves faster when these are ready to send:

  • Company formation documents and your EIN letter.
  • A government ID for each owner.
  • A business bank account in the company's name.
  • Your store URL. If the store is not live yet, you can still apply; tell us where it is in the build.
  • Your estimated monthly volume.
  • Your current or previous processors, and what happened with them if an account was closed or frozen.

A link to a folder with your documents is welcome but not required to apply. If anything is missing, we tell you what.

Checkout basics that cut disputes

A buyer who does not recognise a charge, or cannot find out where their order is, may go to their bank instead of to you. A few settings on WooCommerce help:

  • A billing name buyers recognise. Your store name, the same one on your site and your emails.
  • Order confirmation emails that go out on every order, with the total, the items and how to reach you.
  • Tracking numbers added to the order and sent to the buyer as soon as it ships.
  • A clear refund route. A buyer who can ask you for a refund is less likely to ask their bank.

Our page on chargebacks for peptide brands covers the card-network limits and how to answer a dispute when one arrives. For the emails themselves, see WooCommerce email marketing for peptide brands.

Already on Shopify?

You do not have to move to WooCommerce to take cards. Amino Engine runs card checkout on your own Shopify store too. Read Shopify Payments and peptide stores for what Shopify's terms say and how the switch works.

FAQ

Common questions

  • WooCommerce says it does not limit how the open-source plugin is used. The card processor is what has to accept your store.
  • WooCommerce's own doc lists WooPayments among the services a store selling highly regulated products cannot use, because it depends on a Jetpack connection.
  • Stripe's FAQ allows research peptides only with preventive measures it accepts, and Stripe decides whether a store meets that bar. Read our Stripe page first.
  • We review your store and documents once, before your first payment. If something needs fixing, we tell you exactly what. Then we set up the checkout with you.
  • Visa, Mastercard, Discover and Amex.
  • Not for Amino Engine. WooCommerce's own doc does list hosting on WordPress.com as unavailable to stores selling highly regulated products, so check where your store is hosted.
  • Research-use-only notices, no health claims, clear shipping and refund policies, contact details, and a store that matches your application.
  • No. New stores, and stores closed, frozen or declined elsewhere, can all apply.
