First, the five steps (this week)
- Save your records. Export your balance, payouts, open disputes and refunds from the Stripe dashboard while you still have access. Keep order data from your store too.
- Read the closure notice carefully. Write down the reason given, and any date mentioned for a reserve or a final payout.
- Ask Stripe in writing. Ask for the reason in plain words and the date your remaining balance will be released. Keep the reply on file.
- Keep cash for refunds and disputes. Buyers may still ask for refunds and file disputes on past orders. Plan for that money to come from you, not the held balance.
- Do not open a second Stripe account or describe your store differently to another processor. It tends to make every later application harder.
Tell your buyers what is happening if checkout is down. A short note on the store is better than silence.
What Stripe actually says about peptides
Many pages online say "Stripe bans peptides". Stripe's own FAQ says something different. Under the heading "My business is not a pharmacy. May I sell peptides?", it answers:
“Yes, Stripe supports the sale of many different peptides, with some limitations.”
Source: Stripe support, restricted businesses FAQ, checked 8 October 2026.
“A large number of peptides are prescription only and are required to be sold by pharmacies, meaning Stripe must preapprove the merchant.”

“Peptides that are for research purposes may be sold on Stripe as long as there are preventive measures in place to ensure these are not accessible to those who would purchase research chemicals for nonresearch purposes.”
Source: Stripe support, restricted businesses FAQ, checked 8 October 2026.
The same FAQ adds that a peptide sold with no stated purpose is read by Stripe as a consumer product, not a research product. In other words, the purpose has to be clear on the store.
Stripe's main list of prohibited and restricted businesses ("Last updated: 2026-09-22") does not use the word peptide at all. Two lines on it matter for this category:
“Incorrectly labeled research chemicals”
Source: Stripe, restricted businesses, checked 8 October 2026.
“Pseudo-pharmaceuticals or nutraceuticals that are not safe or make harmful claims”
Source: Stripe, restricted businesses, checked 8 October 2026.
So the honest summary is: Stripe allows research peptides on a condition, and prohibits research chemicals that are labeled wrongly or sold with harmful claims.
Why a store can be closed under those rules
The key words in Stripe's FAQ are "as long as there are preventive measures in place". Stripe sets that condition, and Stripe decides whether a store meets it. That review can come after a store has already been taking payments. When the review decides the bar is not met, the account is closed.
What counts as a preventive measure is not spelled out in the FAQ. The signals reviewers usually look at are the plain ones: clear research-use-only notices, no health claims, product pages that describe research use, and policies a buyer can find.
None of this means you did something wrong. It means the decision was Stripe's to make, on its terms. The fix is a processor that accepts the category up front, before your first payment.
Your money after a closure
A closure and a held balance usually come together. How long Stripe holds funds depends on your account and the notice you received; Stripe does not publish one number for it, so we do not quote one. Use the reply you get in writing (step 3 above) as your timeline.
Our page on frozen funds on a peptide store covers what to do while a balance is held, for Stripe and for other processors.
Getting cards back on your store
Amino Engine is the merchant processor for peptide brands, and stores closed by Stripe are welcome to apply. A past shutdown does not stop you. Tell us what happened in your application, and we review your store as it is today.
- No processing history required.
- Visa, Mastercard, Discover and Amex.
- Card checkout on your own WooCommerce or Shopify store. We set it up with you after approval.
- Your rate is quoted with your approval. Any setup fee, payout timing, any reserve and what a dispute costs are in writing before your first payment.
If your store runs on WooCommerce, read how to accept credit cards on a WooCommerce peptide store. If you are on Shopify, read Shopify Payments and peptide stores, because Shopify's terms say its category lists come from the payment processor in your country. For a wider look at your options, see our post on alternatives to Stripe.
What we check before you go live
We review your store and documents once, before your first payment. These are the site rules we check, and what blocks an approval if they are missing:
- Research-use-only notices on product pages and at checkout.
- No health claims on the store.
- A clear shipping policy and a clear refund policy.
- Contact details a buyer can find.
- A store that matches what your application says you sell.
- Company documents, an owner ID and a business bank account.
If something needs fixing, we tell you exactly what. Your history with Stripe is not what decides it.
