Read your ad link's numbers
What Sent, Bots, Test and Page views mean, how to test a link without counting it, and how to count page views.
Where it is in the app
Open Home, choose Advertising, then Links.
- Home
- Advertising
- Links
Every link has its own page with the last 7 days of clicks. Open Advertising → Links and press a link's name.
#The four numbers
At the top of Last 7 days:
| Number | What it counts |
|---|---|
| Sent clicks | Visitors we sent on to one of your pages. Bots and test opens are left out. Clicks on a paused link still count here, since they still reach your first page. |
| Page views | Visitors whose page actually loaded and reported back. See "Count page views" below. |
| Test opens | Opens of the test link. |
| Bots | Clicks from known bots. |
The same numbers are in the Links table as Sent · 7 days and Bots · 7 days. Bot and test requests are excluded from sent clicks.
A chart and a table by Day · UTC follow, with Sent, Views, Bots and Test for each day. Days are in UTC, so a late evening click in the US may land on the next day.
#Pages
The Pages table lists every page the link sent clicks to, with its Share (such as "Default · 70%" or "Route 1 · 100%"), Sent and Views.
#Last 50 clicks
The list at the bottom shows the last 50 clicks with Time · UTC, Country, Device, Result and Campaign / ad.
- Result is
sent, botorpaused. Test opens are not listed. - Country says Unknown when we could not tell.
- Campaign / ad shows the campaign and ad IDs your platform filled in. A dash means they were blank, which is what you get when you open the link outside an ad.
#Test your link
Each link has a Test link. It follows the same rules as the real link, so you see exactly where a visitor would land. The difference is that it is counted as a test and not as a visitor click or a page view.
Open the link's page.
Under Test link, press Copy test link.
Open it in your browser.
Check where you land. Check the Test opens number goes up.
Keep the test link private. It carries a key that only you should have.
#Count page views
A redirect alone does not prove the page loaded. To count real page views, add a small script once to each page you send people to.
On the link's page, find Count page views.
Press Copy page code.
Paste it into the page. It is one script line that ends in
/l/pixel.js.
Once the script is there, a visitor who loads the page reports back, and Page views goes up. The report has to arrive within an hour of the click.
#The click ID in your page address
For every click we count, we add two parameters to the page address:
aeclid: an ID for that single click.aeview: a one-hour token the page-view script reads.
Any aeclid, aeview, aetest or aekey a visitor tries to bring in themselves is removed first, so they cannot be forged. Bots and test opens never get them.
#Pause and live
At the top of the link page, Pause routing and Resume routing change the status. While a link is paused, the page says "Routing is paused. All visits go to the first visitor page." Otherwise it says changes take effect on the next request.
#If it didn't work
- Sent stays at 0. Check the ad is running and using the link. Open the test link to confirm the link works.
- Page views are much lower than Sent. Some visitors leave before the page loads, and pages without the script cannot report. Check the script is on every page in the Pages table.
- Lots of Bots. That is the point of the count. Those clicks are kept out of Sent.
- Country shows Unknown. Country is not available on every request.
