One ad link can send visitors to different pages. You can split clicks by percentage to test pages against each other, and you can add rules so a device or a country gets its own pages.

#Split by percentage

On step 1 of New link, Visitor pages and percentages takes up to 5 pages.

  1. Paste your first page address.

  2. Press Add page for each more page. The percentages are shared out evenly when you add or remove one.

  3. Change any percentage. The line under the pages shows the total, such as "100% total · Must equal 100%".

  4. Press × to remove a page. You cannot remove the last one.

The percentages must be whole numbers and add up to exactly 100. Each address can be used once.

Each click is placed by chance, to match the shares over time. A 70/30 split does not mean every 10th click goes the other way. With only a few clicks you can see numbers far from 70/30.

#Add rules for devices and countries

On step 3, Visitor routes lets you send some visitors elsewhere. First match wins. A visitor who matches no route gets your default pages from step 1.

  1. Press Add route.

  2. Device. Choose one: any, phones, ios, android or desktop. phones means iOS and Android together.

  3. Countries · comma-separated codes. Two-letter country codes, such as US, CA.

  4. Add the pages and percentages for this route. A route can split between up to 5 pages too.

  5. Press Remove route to delete one.

You can have up to 20 routes. Each one needs a device or at least one country; a route with neither is refused with "Choose a device or country for each route."

Routes run in the order you added them. Add your most specific rule first. For example, add "phones in the US" before "phones".

If we cannot tell a visitor's country, the visitor goes to your default pages. Device comes from the browser, and country from the visitor's address.

#The bot page

Step 3 also has Bot page · optional. A visitor that identifies itself as a known bot (a search crawler, a link-preview tool, a headless browser) goes there, ahead of any route. With no bot page, a bot follows the same rules as everyone else.

Either way, bots are counted separately from visitors. They are listed under Bots · 7 days and left out of Sent. Detection is best effort and cannot prove a visitor is a person.

Pause routing turns splits and routes off. All visits go to the first default visitor page. Press Resume routing to switch them back on.

#Check what you set

After saving, the link page lists each page with its share (such as "Default · 50%" or "Route 1 · 100%"), clicks sent, and page views. If you changed pages later, an old page appears as "Previous page" while it still has clicks.

#If it didn't work

  • "Page percentages must add up to 100." Fix the numbers.
  • "Use each page only once." Two rows have the same address.
  • "Use two-letter country codes." Use US, not USA.
  • A phone is not reaching the phone route. An earlier route matched first. Routes run in the order you added them and cannot be reordered, so remove the earlier one and add it again after the phone route.
  • The split looks uneven. Wait for more clicks.
